Juan Alfonso

Juan Alfonso is a Vice President of Drama Development at ABC Studios, developing and producing one-hour scripted series for ABC, Disney+ and other networks. Since his arrival in early 2013, Alfonso has worked on the Emmy-winning American Crime from 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley; Marvel’s Agent Carter and Kevin (Probably) Saves the World starring Jason Ritter.

Previously, Alfonso led new content development and production for ESPN International, overseeing the launch of new documentaries, scripted programs and selected studio shows in all 5 continents. This included the network’s first foreign language scripted series, El Diez; as well as documentaries like Capitales del Futbol, The Clemente Effect and L’Arbitre, winner of the United Nations prize at New York Festivals in 2010. Alfonso also contributed on Brothers in Exile and Blue White and Blue for ESPN’s 30 for 30 series.

Alfonso began his career in advertising agencies in New York and San Francisco, working on brands like Miller Lite, Saturn and Adidas. In his spare time, he wrote An Educated Guess, a play about the modern immigration experience which had its first formal reading at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago in 2018.

Alfonso serves on the executive board for Children’s Bureau, an organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse. His passions include his family, traveling, playing guitar and of course, soccer.
